Красное Вино и Джаз by Vanessa Bates

Art PrintsThe real title should be "Red Wine and Good Jazz" after the song of the same name, but it seemed more appropriate given the number of Eastern European restaurants, cafés and bars featuring live Jazz, that the "good" should be omitted. After all, not all bands are created equal.  If surrounded by good friends and passable wine, the evening will still be a great one. And jazz, for a quirky cold war reason, is the life blood of this culture.

The image here is a digital revamp of an original acrylic painting. It resembles the collage that I  need to start creating—just not yet.

Navy Alphabet by Vanessa Bates

I've recently cobbled together a nautically themed collage alphabet that is more decorative than art. This was definitely a series to exercise keeping a unified sense of design, something that also seems to be an integral part of what defines fine art collection.

This project probably stems from an early love of fonts. But since I have no ability nor proper training for real type design,  my works like this one centers around modifying the type form instead.

Though this isn't fine art, it is a sample of some of the other projects that help me keep trained in composition.

Call for Pet Photos IV by Vanessa Bates

Chill by Vanessa Studio in BlueThe Roman numerals have been climbing since we've first run this contest on my facebook page this time it seemed like a good idea to post it here as well for those who don't have facebook.

The third round featured Boomer, the pooch that knows how to chill in style. He was definitely a p-awesome model chosen from so many cute photos submitted (each time the decision gets tougher). Thanks to everyone for participating and liking and clicking to take a peek. It definitely provides plenty of encouragement ♥

How to play:

For those who submitted photos and want to resubmit or for those who prefer submitting on facebook, you can join my event or message me on my page. For anyone who would like to play here, submit a photo by replying for a chance to win a free commercial 4"x6" print of the painting created from the selected photo by August 7th at 10pm EDT. The winning photo will be selected to be used as a reference for a painting and you'll get a 4x6 print of the painting. I've done cats, dogs, birds, and a few pigs so far. So we'll see what this next round will bring.

More Fun with Photographs: Flamingos! by Vanessa Bates

RGB Flamingo at studioinblue.comI'm having more fun with photographs again. This fellow celebrates everyone who works in the additive color theory spectrum in a style that proudly proclaims "Florida". The weather on this sopping wet Brevard afternoon, on the other hand, shouts "build an arc but quick!". Happy Tuesday :D

Back to posting

Sell Art Online I'm not one for many words,  so, in short, I've started creating digital art again and will post here from time to time as new works are completed.

This image is an experiment with halftones and the trendy pantone color dubbed "Scuba" by the fashion industry, and depicts a photoilustration (maybe it should say "collage", but somehow the digital sphere seems to require more than it's fare share of tech-sprech ) of the original space walk photo from Gemini 4. Hopefully, this reads as a nod and show of respect to those that have gone before us, including Ed White, the first American astronaut to walk in space. It's certainly a celebration in the terms this artist can understand :)

If anyone wants to delve into the incredible journey of the early space program and wants to watch a fantastic documentary, you might like to rent In the Shadow of the Moon. Ok. That's pretty much it. Here's wishing you all a great start to the week and a happy Sunday.

A giraffe who needs a name…

Photography Prints
I honestly can't come up with a name for this Millennial-Generation-styled fellow. He's inspired by those long necked folks who adorn themselves with ink marking where they've been, what they love and what philosophy they hold. I'm assuming that this delicate placement might symbolize how the wearer's very life depends on the aforementioned. With this in mind, does anyone have a title? Or an interesting perspective (which always leads to memorable titles)? Many thanks in advance.
